Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: STRUCK BY
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to suspended loads held by overhead, underslung hoists that were not periodically inspected: a) Fifty Pound Room, north side of facility; Employees were exposed to the hazards of falling loads, such as but not limited to one ton containers of tricalcium phosphate, from an overhead electric Harrington 2 Ton underslung hoist, which had not received a periodic inspection at least every twelve months since it was installed approximately 2 years ago, to determine deterioration and malfunction as per ANSI B30.16-1. One method of abatement, among others, would be to have this electric hoist inspected on a periodic bases (at least every twelve months as required by ANSI B30.16-1. b) Grinder Room, east side of facility; Employees were exposed to the hazards of falling loads, such as but not limited to varying product loads, from an overhead electric Harrington 1 ton underslung hoist,which had not received a periodic inspected at least every twelve months since it was installed approximately 2 years ago to determine deterioration and malfunction as per ANSI B30.16-1. One method of abatement, among others, would be to have this electric hoist inspected on a periodic bases (at least every twelve months, as required by ANSI B30.16-1. Abatement certification is required for this item in accordance with the requirements of 29 CFR 1903.19(c).
