Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: LIFTING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employee(s) were exposed to crushing injuries from falling, unsecured front end loader arms. a)Farm - Maintenance Shop Area - Caterpillar Model 920 Front End Loader Employees were working under and adjacent to elevated and improperly secured lifting arms, resulting in one employee being struck-by and crushed between the front end loader's lifting arms and the frame of the machine, on or about, 08/08/05. ONE FEASIBLE AND ACCEPTABLE METHOD OF ABATEMENT WOULD BE TO: 1) Follow Caterpillar's Product Safety Manual page 3, number 12, which specifically states to " Always use lift arm supports to keep lift arms raised.
