Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: CRUSHING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish to each of his employees employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to a crushed-by hazard from falling loads and/or hoist parts: (a) On or about March 21, 2007, at an Owens-Illinois establishment located at 3107 Sylvan Road in Atlanta, Georgia -The employer did not perform inspections on the Cleveland 1.5 ton capacity hoists used in the machine repair shop, exposing the employees to a crushed-by hazard. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method is to conduct inspections as referenced by the American Society of Mechanical Engineers standard ASME B30.16-1998. ABATEMENT CERTIFICATION AND DOCUMENTATION NOT REQUIRED
