Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish to each of his employees employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to being caught between trailers and building walls. (a) Carolina Logistics, loading dock area, On or about 05/11/06 - The employer had failed to provide training to protect truck drivers from the hazards of being behind a moving trailer while standing at an open loading dock door. Hazard of being caught between equipment and buildings. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is: To train drivers on the hazards of being crushed or caught between a moving trailer and walls when placing their head or body parts in the hazard or to implement a company policy directing employees traveling with drivers to be located in specific locations while the driver is backing up to the dock.
