Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish to each of his employees employmnent and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the potential hazard of being "struck by" plastic projectiles from a ruptured polyvinyl chloride (PVC) compressed air line: (a) Throughout manufacturing facility along walls and ceiling PVC pipe, used to transport compressed air - There was not an approved compressed air line pipe enclosed in conduit or casing. Employees are exposed to a hazard of being struck by pieces (shards) of exploding PVC pipe.
