Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: FALLING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employers did not furnish employment and a place of employment which was free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to falls from moving vehicles: a)On or about June 6, 2006, and at times prior, employees were exposed to injury were they were placing traffic control cones on the interstate and were not restrained from falling from the platform on back of a moving truck. Among other methods, one of the following methods would be feasible and acceptable manner to abate the hazard: 1.Install an anchorage point on back of the trucks for the connection of a restraint system consisting of a full body harness and lanyard. 2.Install a standard guard rail system on the platform where employees stand to place and remove cones or other traffic control devices. 3.Utilize automatic safety device placement and retrieval equipment.
