Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: STRUCK BY
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the hazard of being struck by flying fragments of a pressurized vessel used to spray colorant. a)On or about April 21, 2006, and at times prior, employees were exposed to the hazard of flying shrapnel when spraying colorant using a pressure vessel not equipped with an appropriate safety relief device and gauges. Among others, one method of abatement to eliminate this hazard would be to: (1) replace the pressure vessel with an appropriate pressure vessel with a pressure relief device (2) follow the requirements found in ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code, Section VIII, Unfired Pressure Vessels. Abatement Note: Abatement certification is not required for this item (see enclosed "Sample Abatement-Certification Letter").
