Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: CRUSHING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to an employee in that an employee was exposed to a crushing and / or struck by hazard: a. East Side of Project. On or about 8/4/05, an employee was observed riding outside of the cab, on the side of a Ford 555C tractor with backhoe & front-end loader attachments. The employee was standing on the access step located between the front and rear wheels on the left side of the cab. The employee was exposed to falling from the side of the tractor and being crushed and/or struck by the moving tractor. AMONG OTHER METHODS, ONE FEASIBLE AND ACCEPTABLE METHOD TO CORRECT THIS HAZARD IS TO FOLLOW THE MANUFACTURER'S OPERATOR'S MANUAL WHICH PROHIBITS ANYONE OTHER THAN THE OPERATOR FROM RIDING ON THE TRACTOR. NO ABATEMENT CERTIFICATION REQUIRED
