Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: CRUSHING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to crushing injuries due to unintentional machine activation: (a)Shop area, 302 Atkinson Way, Boswell, PA: On or about 5/16/06 the Hydracrop 70-S Geka Ironworker used to shear did not have the foot activation pedal guarded. (b)Shop area, 302 Atkinson Way, Boswell, PA: On or about 5/16/06 the Kingsland Model J21 Type A, #55970 Power Metal Working Machine did not have the foot activation pedal guarded. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable means of abatement is to enclose the foot activation pedals with guards.
