40.1-51.1(a) Code of Virginia: The employer, RT Construction Inc., did not furnish employment and a place of employment which was free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to fractures and/or lacerations from falls that could occur when roof trusses were being installed and not braced according to the basic installation diagrams provided by the truss manufacturer. At the residential construction site, #17 Spring Hill Road, Orange, Va., two employees were installing roof trusses when the trusses collapsed. Both employees were injured during the collapse of the trusses. Bracing of the trusses was not performed according the basic truss diagram/instructions, (provided in English & Spanish), by Dominion Building Components LLC. One feasible and acceptable method, among others, to avoid this hazard is to install more bracing for overweight trusses to secure the load from collapsing. A recognized minimum standard for the bracing the workplace can be found in the basic "Truss Installation and Temporary Bracing Instructions/Diagrams" provided by the truss manufacturer.Diagrams"
