Section 5(a)(1) of Public Law 91-596, the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees, in that employees were exposed to:hazard of being struck by dropped loads when using hoisting device with on safety latch on the hook. (a)Tenoning machine - The hook on the overhead hoist did not have a latch. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method to correct this hazard is to ensure the hoisting hook is provided with a latch in accordance with the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) B30.10-1996, Hooks, section 10-1.2.3(c).
