Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: CRUSHING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to struck-by/crushed-by hazards: a)Highway 78 W, Jasper, AL - On or about 04/20/05, employees were exposed to struck- by/crushed-by hazards while adjusting brakes without securing the truck tires using chocks. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method to correct this hazard is to follow DOT regulations 49 CFR Chapter III Part 393.41(a), an agricultural commodity trailer, heavy hauler or pulpwood trailer shall carry sufficient chocking blocks to prevent movement when parked.
