Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: Greenburg Fruit Company, Inc - 9705 I St., Omaha NE - The employer did not furnish employment an a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the hazard of falls while being elevated on the forks of the a powered industrial trucks without any means of fall protection. Employees were elevated on the forks of an industrial trucks, were reaching boxes and bags storage on deteriorated racks in the cooler areas, without any means of fall protection. Among other methods, feasible and acceptable method to correct this hazard includes, but not limited to the following: i)Provide a work platform following the protection outlined in the ASME Standard B561-2000 paragraph 4.17.3 which includes that the platform complies with the design requirements in paragraph 7.36. ii)Implement the precautions for using an industrial truck to elevate personnel as outlined in ASME Standard B56.1-2000 paragraph 4.17.2. iii)Develop and implement written procedures for the safe elevation of personnel using powered industrial trucks per ASME Standard B56.1- 2000. Abatement certification and abatement documentation is required for this violation. The documentation should include written verification of abatement, applicable measurements or monitoring results, and photographs or videos which you believe will be helpful. The abatement certification sheet is enclosed with the citations.
