Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: FALLING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to fall hazards while working on the railcars: (a)At the site - employees were exposed to an approximate 13 foot fall hazard while installing bridge plates between rail cars, on or about 2/8/05. (b)At the site - employees were exposed to an approximate 13 foot fall hazard when accessing the "B" deck via the ladders attached to the railcars, on or about 2/8/05. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to provide and require the use of fall protection equipment to employees when they're exposed to these fall hazards.
