Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: BURNS

Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: On or about October 13, 2006 in buildings BB and DD, employees working in the hot engine test cells were exposed to contact with fuel, oil, coolant, air lines and other engine parts while obtaining oil samples during the different test cycles conducted on running engines. Employees have received thermal burns from leaking lines spraying oil and coolant and contact with hot engine parts. Among other methods, a feasible and acceptable method to correct this hazard is to install remote cameras inside the test cells at locations which will allow employees to monitor engine testing safely from outside the test cells and install an automated oil sampling system to eliminate employee exposure to operating engines to obtain oil samples. *** THIS ITEM REQUIRES DOCUMENTATION OF ABATEMENT ***TEMENT
