Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: FALLING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish to each of his employees employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to stuck by hazards from falling objects: In the paint department, employees were exposed to parts falling from an overhead chain conveyor while using the walkway and or break area directly below the conveyor. The overhead chain conveyor was not equipped with a spill guard, pan guard or similar device to prevent parts from falling on to personnel. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to follow American National Standard, ASME B20.1-1996, Safety Standard for Conveyors and Related Equipment, Section 5.9.2.
