Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: FALLING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: On or about March 24, 2005, employees were exposed to fall and hydraulic failure hazards while working from the platform resting on the forks of a Toyota Forklift (5FGU30-76244) in the Finish Department, and the forklift was left unattended and the wheels were not blocked. The employees were exposed to a fall of approximately 10 feet. Among other methods, feasible and acceptable abatement methods to correct this hazard is to: a)Have a trained operator, assigned and in position to control the truck, or available to operate controls. When the operator is not in the operating position, engage the parking brake and block the wheels. b)Perform personnel lifts in accordance with ASME B56.1-2004, American National Safety Standard for Low Lift and High Lift Trucks.d
