Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: FALLING
North Carolina General Statute 95-129(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of North Carolina: The employer did not furnish to each of his employees conditions of employment and a place of employment free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees, in that employees were exposed to: a)facility, Durham, NC - where employees worked around and under a trolley and sling conveyor system (Speed Check Conveyor Co.) that carried bags of soiled and clean linens (weighing between 150 and 190 pounds) overhead to various laundering machines and there was no spill guard or pan guard provided to prevent the linens spilling out of the bottom of the bags from falling on the employees. Some feasible and acceptable abatement methods to correct this hazard are to provide spill guards (in accordance with ASME B20.1-2000), pan guards or equivalent where employees are endanger of linens falling from the bags/slings.
