Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: FALLING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to fall hazards while using a stepladder improperly: a)For employees working at the McDonald's restaurant located at 3785 Orlando Drive in Sanford, Florida. When employees were required to access the storage room and the door was locked, they would use a 6-foot stepladder to scale a 10-foot wall. This required the employees to stand on the top step of the stepladder, pull themselves up and over the ten foot wall and then climb down into the storage room. Among other methods, one means of feasible abatement would be to utilize the stepladder properly (e.g., not stand on the top step), in accordance with the safety instructions placarded on the stepladder and ANSI A14.5.dder
