Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: DUST&FUMES

Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the hazard of fire and explosion: (a)Raw Materials, Wash Line - The duct work from the dryer on the titanium wash line was not cleaned frequently enough because accumulations of material, containing titanium, had collected inside the duct, on or about October 12, 2006. (b)Raw Materials, Wash Line - The employer had the dry-type cyclone dust collector for the dryer of the titanium wash line located inside the building, on or about October 12, 2006. ABATEMENT NOTE: Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct these hazards includes complying with National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 484, Standard for Combustible Metals (2006), including, but not limited to: -Cleaning the interior of ducts regularly where the possibility of build up of titanium or other combustible material exists to ensure internal cleanliness as listed in Paragraphs 10.4.8.3 and 10.4.8.9 of NFPA 484-2006. -Locating dry-type cyclone dust collectors outside of buildings as listed in Paragraph 10.4.8.2 of NFPA 484-2006.
