Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: LIFTING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employmnent and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to potential crush injuries from a falling load with an inadequately engineered lifting devices: (a)Bean Soak Area - Employees used below-the-hook lifting devices that had no permanently affixed durable identification stating the rated capacity, manufacturer, serial number, lifting device weight, etc. and did not recive all required inspection , on or about March 31, 2005. (b)Bean Soak Area - Employees are opening two thousand pound bags of beans and are under the load, on or about March 31, 2005. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard includes all below the hook devices shall have the rated capacity, manufacturerer, serial number, lifting device weight as outlined in the American Society of Mechanical Engineers standard for Below-the-Hook Lifting Devices (ASME B30.20 - 1993). Employees shall not stand or lean under the load. VERIFICATION REQUIRED
