Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: LIFTING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the hazard of being struck by the load: a)On or about January 13, 2005 and February 9, 2005: Neither frequent nor periodic inspections had been conducted on the Jet underhung hoist as required by ANSI B30.16 - 1981. b)On or about January 13, 2005: Jet underhung hoist was missing the safety latch on the lifting hook. Among other methods, feasible and acceptable abatement methods to correct these hazards are to: 1.Develop and implement a periodic and frequent inspection program for the underhung hoist(s) in accordance with ANSI B30.16-1993, section 2.1. 2.Repair or replace the damaged safety latch in accordance with ANSI B30.16-1993 Section 16-1.2.9. ABATEMENT CERTIFICATION REQUIRED
