Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: CRUSHING
Section 5(a)1 of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish to each of his employees employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to being struck by or crushed by hazards: On or about 09/22/05, at or near Saddle Club Drive and Weston Road in Bonaventure, Florida an employee operating a Vermeer Tractor/Trencher, model V-450, was exposed to a crushing injury from being caught between the roll-over protection (ROPS) and the ground because the manufacturer's installed seat belt was not being worn. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to train and require all employees to use the seat belt when operating the Vermeer V-450 tractor as required by the equipment Operator's Manual, specifically, "Seat belts are to be worn at all times while operating the tractor from the tractor seat". PLEASE NOTE: DOCUMENTATION AND CERTIFICATION OF ABATEMENT IS REQUIRED FOR THIS VIOLATION.
