Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: FALLING
Section 5(a)1 of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish to each of his employees employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to falls when working from the top step of a step ladder. On or about 01/14/05, employees were exposed to a fall hazard of 30 feet to the ground while lubricating the bearing box on an air conditioning unit from the top step of a metal FS 1500 Louisville ladder. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method to abate this hazard is to follow the manufacturers recommendation on the label marked on the ladder indicating "Do not stand on or above this rung or step. You can lose your balance". PLEASE NOTE: CERTIFICATION OF ABATEMENT IS NOT REQUIRED FOR THIS VIOLATION.
