Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: FALLING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to fall hazards of twelve feet while working off of a raised pallet and on dislodged cases of beer to restack the beer cases onto the raised pallet: Among other methods, the following feasible and acceptable abatement methods to correct this hazard are: 1) Establish and train the employees in a safe procedure for accessing product stacks to straighten out and restack dislodged goods. This procedure shall preclude employees from climbing on loose piles and include the use of fall protection systems and stable work platforms such as ladder stairs or personnel platforms on material handling equipment. a) Warehouse & Distribution Center, 202 Port Jersey Boulevard, Jersey City, NJ. Violation occurred on 12/22/2004.
