Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: FALLING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to falling parts (mandrel) of Mold Machine #7 during set-up operations: a/ McWane/Atlantic States Phillipsburg Site - Core Dept./Mold Machines specifically #7: Adequate means were not provided to prevent employee(s) from being exposed to falling metal parts which were not adequately secured during set-up operations. Observed 12/7/05. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to create a documented procedure outlining all steps to be followed during the set-up operation. Note: The procedure must be such that in the absence of the trainer, the trainee will be able to perform the operation safely. REFERENCE: Previous OSHA recommendations for procedures.ions
