Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: CRUSHING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to falling hazards and crushing hazards: Jobsite located at 757 Kensington Road, Berlin, Connecticut: A carpenter was standing on a bundle of lumber that had been raised on the forks of the Loadall forktruck to a height of eighteen feet above the ground. A suitable work platform was not used in accordance with the requirements set forth in the operator's manual of the Loadall Rough Terrain forktruck. One feasible and acceptable method to abate the hazard, among others, is to: 1.Provide a work platform in accordance with the specifications in American National Standard B56.6 Safety Standards for Rough Terrain Forklift Trucks. 2.Use the work platform in accordance with the requirements of American National Standard B56.6 Safety Standards for Rough Terrain Forklift Trucks.
