Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: CRUSHING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not provide a place of employment that was free from recognized hazards that were likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to a crushing hazard between the loading dock and moving trucks. 2600 Beverly Road - Employee exposed to a crushing hazard while attempting to manually lift a dockleveler while standing in the dock bay between the dockleveler and a backing truck. Among feasible means of abatement would be to comply with Copperloy's Edge-of-Dock Dockleveler Installation and Owner's Manual for the operation of the dockleveler, and; a)Require all employees to operate the dockleveler with a hand lever while positioned on top of dock after the truck has backed into position and is secured from moving. b)Prohibit all employees from standing in the dock bay when a truck is backing/moving or has the potential to move.
