Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: CAUGHT
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not provide employment and a place of employment that was free of recognized hazards in that employees were exposed to caught in hazards from the conveyor. New Batch Plant:Maintenance employee was exposed to rotating parts during visual inspection of belts and associated equipment underneath the conveyor. The conveyor was not provided with emergency stops. Among the feasible means of abatement would be to comply with ANSI B20.1-2003, Section 5.11.2C, and provide emergency stop buttons, pull cords, limit switches, or similar emergency stop devices for all remotely and automatically controlled conveyors where operator stations are not manned or are beyond voice or visual contact from drive areas, loading areas, transfer points, and other potentially hazardous locations on the conveyor path not guarded by location, position, or guards. NO CERTIFICATION NOR DOCUMENTATION REQUIRED FOR THIS ITEM.
