Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: FALLING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The Employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that: a) On or about August 28, 2004 employees erecting wood trusses in excess of 45' were exposed to the hazards of falls and/or being struck by falling trusses or other materials due to shifting and collapse of the trusses as a result of inadequate temporary top chord diagonal and continuous lateral bracing, continuous bottom chord lateral bracing, and web member plane X bracing. Among other methods one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard would be to follow temporary bracing recommendations of the manufacture, temporary bracing recommendations of a registered professional engineer or temporary bracing recommendations outlined in Wood Truss Council Of America WTCA-B1/WTCA-B2 Temporary Erection Bracing Information or Truss Plate Institute HIB-91 Summary Sheet Commentary and Recommendations for Handling & Bracing Metal Plate Connected Wood Trusses.
