Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to struck-by hazards. a) Employees were exposed to shrapnel from PVC used to transport supplied air throughout the building on or about December 9, 2005. "Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to:" Only use material with shatter resistance properties. (Reference Plastic Pipe Institute document). In accordance with 29 CFR 1903.19(c), abatement certification is required for this violation (using the CERTIFICATION OF CORRECTIVE ACTION WORKSHEET).
