Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: FALLING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employmnent and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to:The Yale forklift on the job site was not equipped with a seat belt that would prevent employees from falling out during an upset. On June 17, 2004 at the Sear's retail department store at 3700 Atlanta Highway, Athens, Georgia: the employees were allowed to operated a forklift that did not have a seat belt. A feasible and acceptable method of abatement to correct this hazard is to install a seat belt in the forklift and ensure tha employees wear them as required by ANSI B56.1 consenus standards for powered industrial trucks, and ASME B56.1-2000 - Safety Standard for Low and High Lift Trucks.d
