Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: GUARDING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to freezing conditions: (a)At the Winn Dixie store number 432, Ozark, Al: The inside emergency button to open the door of the walk-in Ice Cream freezer was broken. Employees working in the walk- in freezer are exposed to being locked inside if the freezer door was inadvertently closed by other employees or vendors. The employee inside would be exposed to the hazardous conditions such as but not limited to hypothermia, stress, and / or anxiety attacks. Among other methods of abatement is to repair the broken button, and in the interim to ensure another employee is posted outside the walk-in Ice Cream freezer whenever an employee enters the freezer.
