Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: ELECTRIC
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to THE HAZARD OF COMING IN CONTACT WITH ENERGIZED ELECTRICAL CIRCUITS OR EQUIPMENT: a)Grain Bins, on or about 11/12/04: At the shivers wheat bin, two circuit breaker panels had exposed live parts that were not guarded in that the circuit breaker covers were missing. b)Grain Bins, on or about 11/12/04: At the shivers wheat bin, romex type wiring was located on the ground in order to supply power to an airstream cooling fan and was not grounded. c)Grain Bins, on or about 11/12/04: At the Shivers wheat bin, flexible wiring was spliced outside of an electrical box in order to supply power to a Sukup cooling fan. d)Grain Bins, on or about 11/12/04: At the Shivers wheat bin, an electrical box for the augers drive motor was missing a cover plate. e)Grain Bins, on or about 11/12/04: At the 10,000 bushel cooling bin, romex type wiring was spliced outside of an electrical box. f)Grain Bins, on or about 11/12/04: At the 10,000 bushel cooling bin, romex type wiring was spliced outside of an electrical box and located on the ground in order to supply power to a cooling fan. g)Grain Bins, on or about 11/12/04: Overhead power lines were located within 10 feet from portable grain chutes and grain bin access doors. h)Grain Bins, on or about 11/19/04: At the 10,000 bushel cooling bin, a flexible cord for the augers drive motor was not provided with strain relief. i)Cow Barn, on or about 11/19/04: In the hospital area, a circuit breaker panel had exposed live parts that were not guarded in that the circuit breaker cover was missing. j)Cow Barn, on or about 11/19/04: In the hospital area, a circuit breaker panel with romex type wiring was spliced outside of an electrical box. k)Cow Barn, on or about 11/19/04: In the treatment room by the vacuum pump, a circuit breaker panel had exposed live parts that were not guarded in that the circuit breaker cover was missing. l)Cow Barn, on or about 11/19/04: In the treatment room by the vacuumpump, a duplex outlet was missing a cover. m)Cow Barn, on or about 11/19/04: In the treatment room, an electrical junction box was missing a cover. n)Parlor, on or about 11/19/04: At stall #14, an LB cover was missing over a raceway. o)Dairy Row Housing Barn, on or about 11/19/04: At the west end, a circuit breaker panel had exposed live parts that were not guarded in that the circuit breaker cover was missing. p)Calf Barn, on or about 11/19/04: A circuit breaker panel had exposed live parts that were not guarded in that one blank was missing. Among other methods, feasible and acceptable methods to correct this hazard is to repair, replace and install wiring in accordance with National Electrical Codes. Abatement documentation is required for these items.
