Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: FALLING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to fall hazards of 30 to 35 feet, by allowing employee(s) to operate SKYJACK SJB-46TK boom lift onto uneven, and soft surfaces while elevated. This occurred while employee(s) were moving the lift to paint the upper side of the house at 261 Gibbs Ave Newport RI. One feasible and acceptable abatement method, among others, to correct this hazard is to follow the manufacturer's operating manual guidelines which state, "Do not operate platform on uneven or soft surfaces. Do not drive onto uneven or soft surfaces when elevated". Reference SKYJACK Operating Maintenance and Parts Manual SJB-66TK.
