Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: STRUCK BY
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to being struck by a powered industrial truck having an obstructed view around corners and when turning from one warehouse aisle to another. Some feasible and acceptable means of abatement, among others, are: 1. Install large convex mirrors at all intersections and areas where the operator cannot see the aisle prior to driving into it. 2. Place an orange cone at the end of the aisle where an employee is working to make the powered industrial truck operator aware that there is a worker working within the aisle.
