Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: STRUCK BY
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the hazard of being struck by falling trusses as a result of inadequate temporary truss bracing during installation. The first truss installed was not provided with proper ground bracing and the remaining trusses were not provided with proper lateral and diagonal bracing made out of 2 x 4 lumber. Among other methods, feasible and acceptable abatement methods to correct this hazard include complying with the Building Component Safety Information booklet, BCSI-B2 Summary Sheet - Truss Installation and Temporary Bracing, which is published by the Wood Truss Council of America and the Truss Plate Institute.
