Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: DUST&FUMES
KRS 338.031(1)(a): Each employer did not furnish to each of his employees employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or were likely to cause death or serious physical harm to his employees: a.Employees were exposed to workplace conditions that were likely to result in fire or explosion from a Class II explosive dust which would result in serious injuries. The following plant conditions: 1. The employer did not properly neutralize or dissipate static electricity to prevent a static discharge from igniting combustible dusts in the Compound Room. Feasible and acceptable abatement methods would include: 1)Following instructions on the product label and MSDS; 2) Complying with NFPA 77 Static Electricity and NFPA 654 Standard for the Prevention of Fire and Dust Explosions from the Manufacturing, Processing, and Handling of Combustible Particulate Solids, which is adopted by the KY State Fire Marshall. 3)Use of nonsparking tools and proper cleanup tools/procedures.
