Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: FALLING

Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that an employee was exposed to a fall of 10 feet while working from an unsafe platform: (a)Eaker Framing Inc. at 8685 Clay St., Westminster, CO 800306: On July 19, 2004 The employer did not ensure the employee did not work from an unsafe platform held aloft by a rough terrain forklift in that an employee worked at approximately 10 feet high in a job made platform without restraining means. This condition exposed the employees to hazards of fall of approximately 10 feet. Abatement Note: Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is: Provide a restraining means such as a guardrail. A Guardrail or similar structure shall have a nominal height to the platform floor of 42 inches and a midrail at 21 inches with a toeboard of four inches nominal. Such a guardrail system shall be capable of withstanding a concentrated horizontal force of 200 lbs without permanent deformation. For more information your attention is called to ASME B56.6-1992, The American Society of Mechanical Engineers - An American National Standard - Safety Standard for Rough Terrain Forklift Trucks, paragraphs 5.15 and 8.25. Abatement Note: Abatement certification and documentation is required for this item (see enclosed "Sample Abatement-Certification Letter").-Certification
