Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: FALLING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish to each of his employees employmnent and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to fall hazards and entanglement hazards: (a) SoundTrack Audio & Video, at 1370 S. Colorado Blvd., Denver, CO 80222: On or before March 16, 2004 the employer allowed employees to ride the "upbelt" conveyor. Riding the conveyor exposed three or more employees to the hazard of falling from the belt or to the hazard of becoming entangled in the belt. (b) On or before March 16, 2004 the employer allowed employees to ride the "downbelt" conveyor. Riding exposed three or more employees to the hazard of falling from the belt or to the hazard of becoming entangled in the belt. One feasible method of abatement, among other methods, is to prohibit employees from riding the conveyor belts in accordance with industry consensus standard ASME B20.1-2000 5.12d, which states that, "No person shall ride on a conveyor, except on a slow moving assembly conveyor 0.4m/s (80 ft/min) maximum or on a conveyor that incorporates a station specifically designed for operating personnel."
