Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: CRUSHING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or were likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees operating or in the vicinity of Hoist #8 were exposed to hazard(s) such as being struck or crushed by metal castings weighing up to 750 pounds in that loads were drifting after the brake was engaged. Among other things, one feasible and acceptable means of abatement would be to implement inspection, testing and preventative maintenance procedures,including making adjustments and repairs for any unsafe condition(s) disclosed, in accordance with Chapter 16-2 of ANSI B30.16, the American National Standard for Electric or Air Powered Hoists.
