Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: LIFTING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational safety and Health Act of 1970: the employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees: Entire facility - On or about April 14, 2004, fall protection was not provided for employees required to stand on a platform (pallet) raised by a fork truck to change light bulbs. Employees were exposed to falls up to 20 feet. A feasible means of correcting the hazard is to: 1. Use of a safety platform firmly secured to the lifting carriage and/or forks. 2. Restraining means such as rails, chains, etc., shall be in place, or a body belt with lanyard shall be worn by the person(s) on the platform. 3. An operator shall be in the control position of the truck or available to operate controls. NOTE: 29 CFR 1903.19 REQUIRES THAT YOU PROVIDE CERTIFICATION AND DOCUMENTATION OF ABATEMENT FOR THIS ITEM.
