Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish to each of his employees employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to being struck by a moving vehicle: (a) Kitchen, Dock area, On or about 05/25/05 - Airline catering trucks were backing up, with the drivers vision impaired by the size and configuration of the vehicles, with neither spotters or backup alarms in place on all trucks. These conditions created struck-by hazards. Among other methods, Two feasible and useful methods of abatement to correct the hazard are as follows: (1) Require a backup alarm or spotter on all limited visibility vehicles during all backing operations. (2) Incorporate training on the hazards associated with working within the dock area with emphasis on vehicle pedestrian safety. ABATEMENT CERTIFICATION AND DOCUMENTATION REQUIRED
