Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: STRUCK BY
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish to each of his employees employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or were likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the tipping of equipment and struck-by hazards while moving an unsecured/unstable section of a car lift on two dollies: On or about 03/30/04, next to a gate near the northwest corner of the office, while relocating a piece of equipment from a garage to a storage area, two employees were exposed to the hazard of being struck by a car lift that was not secured or restrained from tipping while it was being moved on two dollies. Among other methods of abatement, feasible and acceptable methods to correct this hazard from occurring again are: (a) to institute and enforce a policy in which employees are prohibited from moving unstable and unsecured loads; and (b) to use appropriate mechanical equipment that would ensure a safe process to move heavy machinery. PLEASE NOTE: CERTIFICATION AND DOCUMENTATION OF ABATEMENT IS REQUIRED FOR THIS VIOLATION.
