Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: BURNS
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to approximately 207-degree steam release through a pressure relief plate on the Ellis VOC washer/extractor, model ZB1772 serial #630. a) Brent Industries, Inc. - Toledo, OH: On or about March 15, 2004, an employee received second degree burns as he was in the aisleway of the wash area and the VOC washer/extractor discharged steam through the pressure relief plate. Abatement note: One feasible means of abatement would be the installation of a device that would redirect the steam up towards the ceiling, instead of out into the aisleway, thereby eliminating employee exposure to the hazard. Additional abatement information is required for this item.
