Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the hazards of being struck by the molds and stuck plastic parts as the employee worked under the suspended load: (a)Straight Arm (North) Section of the Rotational Molder; while the mold was suspended overhead, the employee standing on a step ladder or portable stairs tried to pry out stuck plastic parts from the mold. (b)Off-Set Arm (South) Section of the Rotational Molder; while the mold was suspended over the employee's head, plastic film was inserted around the vent tub of the garbage cart mold. Among other methods, feasible and acceptable abatement methods to correct this hazard includes but is not limited to: 1.Move top mold out of the area when working on the bottom mold or when applying mold release. 2.When removing a stuck mold from the top mold or placing film over vent holes, place the top mold in a jig or fixture to support the mold from falling for example: set it on top of a stand or stand it up vertically with support. 3.Apply adequate amounts of mold release allow the mold to be removed from the bottom mold and not having to pry out of top mold.
