Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: FALLING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that they were exposed to an impalement hazard: a)At the construction site, employees were exposed to an impalement hazard from tripping and falling on multiple metal "form stakes" protruding about 1 foot out of the ground and 1/2 inch in diameter that employees were walking and working around. One feasible and useful method of abatement among others is to cover the top of the "form stakes" with a cap designed by a manufacturer to prevent impalement or to use another equivalent means to provide protection from impalement. ABATEMENT VERIFICATION IS REQUIRED.
