Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: STRUCK BY
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to struck by hazards: (a) BMC battery charging area; On or about 03-04-04 three control buttons on the pendant control box of the P&H Zip 4,000 pound hoist were not labeled with buttons indicating their purpose. (b) BMC battery charging area; On or about 03-04-04 there were no certification records to indicate that frequent and periodic inspections, in accordance with the manufacturer's recommendations, were conducted on the P&H Zip 4,000 pound hoist. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable means to abate this hazard is to label all of the pendant control buttons and to develop a crane maintenance program in accordance with the hoist manufacturer's specifications and ANSI B 30.16.
