Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: LACKTRAIN
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that Employees were exposed to hazards associated with tracking conveyor belts such as, but not limited to, moving and rotating mechanical parts. a) Tampa International Airport, Landside N/AS7 Loop/bag make-up area, AX 10-11, employee(s) maintaining or servicing a moving conveyor belt had not been made aware of the hazards and the safe means of accomplishing the task, in that employee(s) assigned to track a moving belt had been shown to touch the belt to assure proper tension, on or about August 10, 2003. Among other methods, one recognized and feasible means of abatement would be to implement the requirements of the American National Standard Institute (ANSI), ANSI B20.1-2000, Section 5.12(j).
