Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: CRUSHING

Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to crushing, struck by and falling injuries from a collapsing wooden roof truss system where the temporary bracing was not adequate. Location: Job site. An employee was injured when the truss system collapsed and knocked him off the building to the ground 20 feet below. One method of abatement, among others, is to follow recommendations set forth in the Truss Plate institutes, Handling, Installation and Bracing Schedule - 91(HIB-91) which is delivered with all shipments of roof trusses.s
